What does a typical school year look like?
BCA follows a traditional 10-month American academic schedule. Each year, classes start mid-August and end in late May. Students and staff enjoy holiday breaks at Christmas, and during both Fall and Spring semesters. For specific dates, check out our academic calendar.
Do BCA staff receive a salary?
Staff are affiliated with and receive financial support through an evangelical sending agency. BCA offers a stipend to staff who have made a minimum two year commitment, in order to help offset cost of living.
Where do BCA teachers live?
BCA is located near both metro, tram and bus lines, making it easily accessible to staff. Many teachers live in Sector 3 and commute by public transportation or private car each day.
How long do teachers normally serve at BCA?
BCA strongly encourages staff to sign at least a two year commitment. This allows staff time to adjust to life in Bucharest and invest in relationships within the BCA community. Current staff have served anywhere from two years to 15+ years.
Is Bucharest a safe place to live?
While it is always recommended you should maintain situational awareness, BCA staff have not experienced any problems. As a capital city, Bucharest hosts more than 80 embassies and has become a hub for expat families. Throughout the city, you will find parks, malls, and restaurants where families and friends spend time together.
Do BCA teachers need to be able to speak Romanian?
Because Bucharest Christian Academy is an international school and courses are taught in English, Romanian is not required. However, while it is possible to be successful and thrive in Bucharest without Romanian, it is useful to have some vocabulary. A tutor or online program can be recommended to you by existing staff.
